For the first time, a paraplegic man has regained the ability to walk smoothly using only his thoughts, thanks to two implants that restored communication between his brain and spinal cord. The patient, named Gert-Jan, did not walk for nearly a decade due to spinal cord injuries. However, with the help of this innovative technology, he was able to complete a 3.6-meter long course using a robotic exoskeleton. The researchers hope that this technology can someday lead to spinal cord injury recovery and rehabilitation.
