The Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by Republican-led states to keep the pandemic-era immigration measure called Title 42 in place. The immigration measure was introduced by the Trump administration in 2020 which allows officials to expel migrants who could potentially spread the virus. Since then, human rights groups and advocates have urged the Biden administration to cease its use. Earlier this year, a judge said that Title 42 was illegal because of the harm it has caused to asylum seekers. The Supreme Court’s latest decision means that Title 42 will be eventually lifted.
