Astrophotographers Andrew McCarthy and Jason Guenzel have created a stunning 140-megapixel image of the Sun. The image is a result of 100,000 individual photos that were taken over the course of two years and then stitched together. The resulting image shows unprecedented detail, including sunspots and solar flares. McCarthy and Guenzel say that making the image required a complex setup that involved a custom-built telescope and camera, specialized computer software, and hours of image processing. The duo plans to continue photographing the cosmos and sharing their work with the world.
