The remains of a Detroit native were launched into space as part of a “Space burial” through Celestis, a company offering memorial spaceflights. More than 100 individuals’ remains will join the Spaceflight Sun Synchronous Orbit. This company has been previously offering space burials but the COVID-19 pandemic led to a delay in launches. The current launch was powered by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Loved ones will be able to track their loved ones’ orbital journey via an app. “Space burials” are becoming increasingly popular as they offer a unique way to grieve and honour a loved one.
