Northrop Grumman has revealed its team, featuring Raytheon, L3 Technologies, and General Electric, in its bid to win the contract to build the US Navy’s next command-and-control aircraft. Dubbed the “doomsday” plane, the contract provides for an aircraft that will serve as an airborne command centre for the US President, Secretary of Defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff in the event of a nuclear attack. The Northrop Grumman-led assembled team aims to compete against Boeing, which built the current version of Air Force One. The contract award is expected in late 2018.
