Equity markets were highly volatile on Tuesday as investors sold rallies at higher levels. The S&P BSE ended at 60,708, up 16.5 points or 0.03 per cent, while the Nifty50 ended at 17,843, down 2 points or 0.01 per cent. Among the top laggards were Capital Goods, Adani Power, Adani Enterprises, Apollo Hospitals, Coal India, Bajaj Auto, UPL, Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, HDFC Life, Ultratech Cement, TCS, and Wipro which fell in the range of 1 per cent to 3.5 per cent. On the other hand, NTPC, Britannia Industries, RIL, Tata Steel, Adani Ports, Divis Labs, Power Grid, and Tata Consumer Products gained between half a per cent and 3 per cent. The BSE MidCap index fell 0.21 per cent, and the BSE SmallCap eased 0.31 per cent. The PSU Bank index declined 1.9 per cent, leading the list of losers. The FMCG index was the only gainer with modest gains of 0.19 per cent.
