Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has accused the BCCI of favouritism in the team selection for the Border-Gavaskar Test series, citing the example of the selection of KL Rahul over the in-form Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan. Prasad also criticised veteran cricketers and experts of the game for not calling it out for the fear of losing their IPL contracts. He also criticised the appointment of Rahul as a deputy to the captain over other players such as Ashwin, Pujara and Jadeja. Prasad concluded by saying that many ex-cricketers are not vocal due to the fear of losing potential IPL gigs. India are unlikely to make a change in the line-up after just one match, implying that Gill would have to wait for his opportunity until the third Test against Australia.
