On Friday, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) issued an order to withdraw the government’s appeal to celebrate February 14 as ‘Cow Hug day’. The AWBI order read that the appeal was issued on the directions of the Minister of Animal Husbandry and Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. The appeal was issued on February 6, 2023 but was withdrawn on February 10. The government had urged people to celebrate the day with their cows and give them hugs to promote cow welfare.
