On Wednesday, protests seeking the release of Sikh prisoners countrywide turned violent in Mohali, Punjab. Around 30 policemen were injured and several vehicles were damaged in the incident. The protestors, under the banner of the ‘Qaumi Insaaf Morcha’, were armed with swords and sticks among other things. The Punjab Police had put up barricades near the Chandigarh-Mohali border to prevent the protesters from moving towards Mann’s residence. The protesters tried to force their way through the barricades and the Chandigarh Police retaliated with water cannons. This led to a violent attack on police personnel and property. The ‘Qaumi Insaaf Morcha’ demands the release of Sikh prisoners across the country. Director General of Police of Chandigarh Praveer Ranjan said an FIR will be lodged against those involved in the incident.
