International investigators have suspended their probe into the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in 2014, citing insufficient evidence to lead to new prosecutions. The Dutch government has held Russia liable for the incident, in which 298 people on board the Boeing 777 were killed. Using phone taps, it was possible to prove that Russian President Vladimir Putin was personally involved in the decision to supply the Donetsk People’s Republic separatists with anti-aircraft weaponry. Nevertheless, the investigators on Wednesday decided to suspend the probe after it concluded there was insufficient evidence to lead to new prosecutions. The Netherlands will continue to call the Russian Federation to account for its role with the downing of the flight, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said in a statement on Twitter.
